ABOUT FD

Faculty of Dentistry (FD) started at Islamic Azad University, Khorasgan Branch, as the second Faculty of Dentistry at IAU in 1993 and its first graduates finished their degrees in 1999. Under the approval of Iran Ministry of Health and Education in 2008 two programs in Periodontics and Endodontics were offered, followed by three programs in Orthodontics, Pedodontics, and Operative Dentistry. Later, in 2010, a program in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and in 2011, two other programs in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, and finally in 2012, another program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery were introduced. Annually, 25 candidates are admitted to each program.

FD has 49 faculty members teaching to 415 students (350 General Dentistry students, 65 Specialty degrees candidates) and more than 500 students have been graduated from this faculty so far. Students and graduates of this faculty share the honour of winning the first rank in the National Examination of Basic Medical Sciences in 10 successive years. FD alumni have gained excellent achievements; many of them are now faculty members of accredited universities.

The building of FD was officially inaugurated in 1998. The square footage of the building was first 3000 square meters to include different sections and centers of the faculty. In 2005, the footage of the building increased to 4000 square meters and in 2011 a new part was attached to the main building increasing its footage to 4700 square meters.

At the present time, the faculty offers 12 programs in Dentistry General (DDS), Community Dentistry, Endodontics, Operative Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics.

The faculty offices and classrooms reside in a two-story building known as Building of Faculty of Dentistry (FD). At the present time, 49 full-time assistant professors teach at FD. The faculty is equipped with laboratories, computer sites, and one library. More than 400 students are studying different specialties in this faculty:

· Community Dentistry: 17 residents

· Endodontic: 9 students

· Dentistry General (DDS): 333 students

· Operative Dentistry: 9 residents

· Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery: 3 residents

· Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology: 9 residents

· Oral Medicine: 5 residents
